A Brief History

The company was founded in 1902 at Bank Street, St. Columb by Mr. JOHN EDYVEAN who later died in 1929 and it was then run by his son, TOM EDYVEAN, later to be joined by another son, JAMES EDYVEAN.

The company was shut down during the war years and then re-started at the end of the war in new premises at Higher East Street, St. Columb.

In 1950 IVAN SMITH joined the firm as an apprentice for five years, then did his National Service, after which he joined the firm of John Chugg Printers in Newquay to gain more experience, after this period he rejoined the firm of J. EDYVEAN & SON as a partner in 1968.

In 1978 after spending several years situated in two different premises the firm moved 100 metres across the road into new premises that used to be the Bible Christian Chapel in Fore Street.

In 1982 Ivan took over the business, after the retirement of Mr. JAMES EDYVEAN, following the death of Ivan in August 2002 the firm is now run by his two sons TERRY and CRAIG, who have both been pupils at Plymouth College of Art and Design.

The name of Edyvean is still retained, although from 1982 the firm was renamed EDYVEAN PRINTERS.

Our office is situated on the main street
opposite a small car park (Fore Street) and is well equipped with the latest Ricoh digital production machines with collate and staple facilities, both being full colour machines capable of handling sheets up to 400gsm.
We also have internet access available for customers wishing to print out their emails, etc

The main print and finishing room is at the back of the office on the ground floor, it is equipped with our litho presses, a heidelberg platen and guillotine.

There is also equipment for creasing, slitting and cutting, folding, drilling, binding and bookmaking.

On the first floor of the building we have pouch and roll laminating machines up to A1 wide and as long as you like!

We have the the facilities to produce large format posters and plans, and laminate these if needed. Our studio has the latest PC and MAC computers to handle most file formats that customers provide.

With the equipment available we have the ability to handle nearly all work 'in house'.

We pride ourselves on our fast and efficient turnaround, which means we can meet most deadlines that are required.

This coupled with the knowledge of our long serving staff, you can be assured of a quality and friendly service.
